Marjorie: Events

When I think of how I would like to spend the Eve of the New Year, I think of Marjorie. There are many reasons, and I am most struck by the words of a dear friend, who shared that he could think of no better place to mark the passing of a year, especially this year. My friend, Tom commented on how special he feels when he dines at Marjorie. He loves the deliberately prepared plates, the carefully selected wines that we offer, and like many other fans of Marjorie, he appreciates the beautifully constructed cocktails. Being in a place like that, was for him the ultimate way to honor the passing of a year, and to anticipate the joys and prospers of the upcoming 2011.

For me a perfect New Year’s Eve starts with a sip of great Champagne (and we are currently pouring Nicholas Feuillatte by the glass, featuring little bottles of Laurent Perrier) or some other bubbly (yes, there is sparkling sake and prosecco!). I love to have beautiful and deliberately plated food, and of course, I want my dessert.

The Chocolate Peanut Tart with Coconut Custard
Ending a meal at Marjorie with a delicious dessert created by Marjorie Pastry Chef, Taylor Cheney is a wise decision. I love to pair dessert with an after dinner sip of vin santo, moscato d’asti or port. On the colder nights, I go straight for a shot (er…I mean sip) of whisky!

When Marjorie Restaurant Chef, Kylen McCarthy approached owner, Donna Moodie with a request to host a special White Truffle Dinner, featuring imported Italian White Alban Truffles, there was no convincing necessary. Marjorie delights in hosting a special evening, but a dinner focused on the extremely potent truffle coming from the Alban sub region of Piedmont? It will surely be a memorable evening! This very perishable and fragile truffle lasts only a few days for use. It is the most sought after and expensive truffle in the world, garnering a high price at auctions.
We are pleased to host this special evening on Sunday, November 14th at Marjorie. In typical Marjorie fashion, the doors will open at 5PM, and you are invited to join us and mingle with our guests for the evening before sitting down to the first course which will be served promptly at 5:45. Ben, Kylen and Donna have been tasting wines to be paired with this distinctive meal.
Call 206-441-9842 for reservations or email info@marjorierestaurant.com
The dinner is $175.00 per person, and a credit card deposit of $25.00 will be taken at the time of reservation. Seating is limited.

This Thursday, Marjorie Restaurant will host an After Hours party to benefit the Central District Forum. Done in correlation with Charles Anderson’s dance theatre x and their world premier performance of World Headquarters, this event will provide friends of the CDForum the opportunity to mingle with the artist and fellow fans of the CDForum. It is not difficult to become a fan of the CDForum. In the world of social media lingo, of course you can simply go to the website, cdforum.org, get the details of their mission and the outstanding season of Black Arts and Culture we are in the midst of, and follow on Facebook and Twitter. Being a fan of CDForum means a lot more than that to me. After having served on the CDForum’s Board for almost 6 years, and been a participating restaurant at Food As Art, CDForum’s unique gala fundraiser for 6 years, what CDForum does is summed up in more than its programming or mission. The Central District Forum is a vital ingredient of Seattle. It presents innovative Black Art and Culture in a sophisticated and impressive way. It is an out of the box thinker, and it makes its audience think and a little differently. It often features emerging artists or touches on a topic that is current and heavy on mind, although not discussed with the candor we need to work our way through it. It has become for me an integral part of the landscape of Seattle.
Please know that if you want to join us in support of this great organization on Thursday, we would love to have you!
